I have this crazy looking buck at a place I am taking care of. I have been going through culling some of the not so good deer out of the property and at first had this guy on the list. The more I look at him though the more I think he may turn out funky enough to be interesting. I am looking for opinions to see if this is a worth while endeavor or if he should go asap. I am on the fence with it. What do you guys think?

Very interesting, I'm not sure how much more growing it will do. He doesn't exactly look young to me but I have almost no experience with axis.

No you shouldn't shoot it, you should let me grin

Hard to tell the age from that picture but he doesn't look like very young deer, so I'd rifle

thanks guys, its hf so I know I will catch up to him sometime. The old manager didn't do much culling. I've been busy... We have some really good genetics on the place. This dude was a real standout compared to the rest. I think he may be steak within the week

based on the picture I would say he is very young and that is his first set of antlers, maybe second.
his neck is skinny, and his mid section is not barrel shaped as much as the older ones are.
most young axis have strange antlers.

if you just want meat and have plenty of axis, then go for it.
if you are trying to grow bigger bucks and dont have a huge herd of males, then let him walk and whack a doe for meat.

on our place, he would be left alone

now, my opinion is based off one partial body picture.
if you see him live and he looks that way and is 250lbs, then drop him

Our axis are so wild that we only know some of them exist because of game cameras. They have even learned how to avoid cameras for the most part recently. We have one that has been hunted almost every weekend for four years now. He is probably 9 years old now. I am beginning to think that he will die of old age.
I hope yours are easier to get to. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. This guy is patterned pretty well. It's just a matter of deciding what to do with him. I appreciate the feedback.
