I have an older Browning BPS in 12 gauge. About the only use it gets is dove season 2 or 3 times. Has the Invector chokes that came with it, F, M, and I/C.

Was reading an article by Ray Sasser about chokes for dove. He favors Skeet for early season when they're a bit closer, and I/C as a second choice. Anyway, it got me thinking and trying to research about choke tubes. Some folks seem to be not so fond of the Invector chokes, and some have aftermarket tubes. I believe Trulock was one of the brands I saw recommended.

Anyone here have suggestions, or care to say what they use? I'm running out of excuses for my sub par numbers on the dove. Maybe I can get a new choke and blame it on that.

Have you taken the gun to a patterning board yet?

I say that because it might be the point of impact, not the pattern. If you improve the pattern, but the problem is point of impact ...

You might be a better shot than you think.

I had the POI problem with a Gold Hunter so it is definitely possible. I bought it and should have shot before taking it on a 2 day guided goose hunt. It was a learning experience and explained why I got it so cheap.

Google Carlson Shotgun Chokes...bigtime full selection of US made ( in Kansas) chokes...BPS, Cabelas and some of the larger online guys carry them too. Trying to remember the shotgun centric online distr from KS that had a complete offering. If I can dig it out of my notes I'll post it later. Found him last year when I was looking for screw in rifled slug chokes or barrels. ** Google: "Michael Murphy & Son's, Augusta Kansas".

Hastings is a French line of very high quality stuff all centric to shotguns in barrels and chokes.

There's a high end retailer in Houston by the name of Briley that now makes his own chokes too that'd be worth a looksee IMO, 1st class great quality & Briley is/was one of the largest Browning dealers in the US.......oh well.

Briley, they make excellent chokes to fit pretty much every gun. You can also find various charts on their site showing pattern sizes, densities, etc.. Very informative.

I've carried a Benelli SBE for almost 20 years now and still get dizzy choosing chokes every year. Do I start with a skeet or do I start with the IC? Well, maybe they are flying a little higher than usual, let me try a modified. This year I'm adding a new choke, a Carlson light modified. I'm also moving down from #8 shot to #7-1/2, nitro hcp.

My grandpa would laugh his butt off if he knew I was putting this much thought into dove hunting.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure that in his prime, my grandfather could regularly get a limit with his Stevens Single Shot 410.
