Hello folks,
I'm looking to purchase my first ar style rifle and thought I would go with an AR 10. I would like to be able to stick it in the truck and not worry about it (economical). Probably stick with my bolt guns for hunting. Would like to buy a truckload of ammo for it. I saw a DPMS sportical at academy for 749. Definitely needs to be less than $1,000.

Thanks for your input.

Another option is to purchase a lower, and upper parts kit from Palmetto arms. Lots of choices in the way it looks, and cost.

I read where psa 308's have a lot of parts that are not interchangeable, which is not a deal breaker, but not ideal either.

DPMS sportical at academy for 749. is a good deal I have one with a Nikon m308 scope and it shoots great. have over 1500 rounds thru it so far no problem.

I have setting under my desk but not installed a JP muzzle brake and a timney small pin trigger to put in mine.

Factory trigger is not bad - the only thing is AR10 are Freaking heavy the more Tacticool stuff you add the more it weighs : lights / Bipods etc etc .

When I do pack it for hunting I just use a 10round clip for weight and size if you can get more than 10 aimed shots off at group of pigs they must be very very slow.

Your are right about the parts. I think you will find the ar10 game is like that. You almost have to pick your make and stick with it. There are some that match up, but it is a pain to deal with the inconsistency.
I got tired of it and went with a 6.8. I will add the other reason I went 6.8 is that the ar 10's are beast. Heavy!!!

Avoid the Rock River AR-10. I am not aware that they have fixed the issues with the gun jamming and the BCG locking up full of brass shavings.

Could you explain further? There is a ton of things that could cause a rifle to jam (I know mags are an issue in the AR10), and this is the first I've heard about the BCG thing.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Rock River was quick to produce their AR-10. The rifle was notorious for shaving brass as it cycled and put rounds in the chamber and as it kicked them out. The BCG would fill with brass shavings causing the ejector rod to stop functioning and it would not eject rounds and the weapon would cease operation. We talked to Rock River and they said they were aware of issues and had received complaints, but didn't have any solutions at the time. After ever 20+/- rounds, the entire BCG would have to be dismantled and meticulously cleaned including dis-assembly of the ejector rod.

We finally sold it and purchased a DPMS and never had a single failure regardless of ammo used.

Do you have one of these? Does the 16" barrel seem short?

DPMS 308 oracle is usually around $750. They are good guns.

Yes I personally have a DEF 10 and no, the barrel isn't too short at all. I have a Redfield Revolution 3x9x40 TAC MOA scope on it and love it.

The 308 I use to deer hunt had a 16" barrel and sometimes I feel it's too long.

I have 2 dpms ar10's one Ap4 and one oracle. Never had an issue out of them at all. I also have a dpms ar10 in 243. No issues at all.

I have rock river ar15. Great rifles. Never heard of any issues with them at all ar15 or ar10.

I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.
