Just looked out the window at a bird feeder in the front yard, and danged if there isn't a white winged dove sitting there. Never seen one this far north (I'm east of Waco about 40 miles). I sure didn't know they came this far north.

They are EVERYWHERE in the DFW area.

I have consistently shot more whitewings than mourning dove in North Texas for the last 5+ seasons. Last year I bagged more collared/Eurasians than Ms and WWs combined.

Whitewings are everywhere around DFW. Even around Granbury and Stephenville. They're like pigeons, they stay near cities rather than in the country.

This is pretty accurate for Lubbock. At my feeder it's all whitewings and eurasians, but you go a mile out of the city to hunt and you'll get 90-95% mourning dove.

White wings do like the city. I hunt near Haskell each September and each year for the last 5 we shoot more and more WWs.

I've heard whitewings have been seen as far north as Minnesota but don't know if that's accurate or not

They have been sighted as far north as Alaska to Ontario, Maine, Newfoundland, and everywhere in between. Migratory.
A banded one was even recorded to have lived to 21 year old. Amazing.

That has been true for anywhere I hunt, north or south Texas. We call white wings "city dove"

The steady migration North is one of the reasons TP&W did away with the Whitewing stamp and created the overall State Migratory bird stamp.

generally have a dozen or so hanging out in the back yard at the feeder, just a few miles north of temple

they do get kind of jumpy during the season

There are a nuisance to my bird feeders here in Comal county. Have about 20 or more every day.

Finally shot one up in Montague last year. Closest town is several miles away but we got one.

Here is South Texas they roost in the little city's at night, like Poteet, Pleasanton,Devine, etc. etc. They fly out to the grain Fields during the Day and fly back to the city to roost. I think they like to roost in the city because of all the lights. Maybe they feel
Safer. I have shot them 6 to 7 miles outside of all the little towns around here. They don't show up at Daylight like the Mourning Doves. They start hitting the fields around 8:30 or so in the morning. Have to let the mourning birds fly by while you wait on the white wings. Much funner to shoot in my opinion.

They've been coming to the feeders in my back yard since the spring. Prior to that I only saw mourning dove. The hawks love 'em!

There are two on the ground under my bird feeder in Montgomery County, right now. First I've ever noticed.
