Slim, I suspect very few batteries are not made in China these days.
However, I have had very good service from Power Sonic 12 volt batteries.
The Ace Hardware in Midlothian has them for $15. Some are priced twice
that amount.

I have a new Power Sonic 12v UPS battery here that I ordered from Interstate. It's up for grabs in West Fort Worth. I use them in my feeders, good stuff. It is made in China tho.

I use any of the rechargeables and put in a solar charger to keep it up. I have had my current batteries over 2 years without any issues.

Got a bad batch last year from Academy. Feeder maintenance can be a bit frustrating when local supplies are limited and you're over a 100 miles from home. 😣

Anyone pulled a battery out of an old Computer UPS and used it in your feeder? I've heard this is a thing for batteries that aren't testing good for the UPS but work really well for a low draw item like a controller and feeder motor.

LARGE ups's that use Multiple SLA batteries will often have MANY good ones that will last in a feeder (as well as some bad ones). Companies usually replace the entire bank on a fixed schedule to maintain reliability. They should be load-tested to pick out a good one(s).
A bad battery is a bad battery.
A good (new) battery can Slowly become bad sitting on the shelf of a store tooo long;
A perfect battery can be killed Quickly by freezing weather (20 deg like we had last winter) when battery is LOW (under 50% charge) when it freezes (too small a solar panel; cloudy too long; not 're-conditioning' occasionally with a smart-charger)
A good battery can also be killed by overcharging (too big of solar panel without a controller; old-style auto-charger).
A good SLA battery will also be killed by setting up without a solar panel and being allowed to 'over-discharge' (left on till 'empty charge').
A solar panel will help slow the discharge of a SLA, but it still need to be occasionally pulled and 're-conditioned', especially before freezing weather.
A solar panel will not 'refill to full' a discharged SLA battery (unless it is HUGE{>2amp} & with controller).

All these 'situations' that most don't understand/realize is why many hate rechargeable(s).
Setup & maintain your SLA rechargeable(s) correctly, and you will love them to death!

I use new 12v 9.5ah UPS batteries in all my stuff. They fit my Monarch feeders and the integrated solar panel charges them just fine, four of them fit in a FAT50 ammo can and gives me 12v at 38ah. That will drive a Covert game cam for a very long time, forever with a solar charger.

Above all else, never buy a battery manufactured more than 6 months ago. They discharge sitting on the shelf. If they sit fully discharge, they will effectively 'age' faster. Most use a date code that is pretty easy to figure out.

We all need to practice Whoa more.
