I don't think it boils down the the "best AR" as much as it is shooting quality ammo tuned for that rifle. For example, many years ago Specialized Dynamics (Tactics, LLC at the time) made a $750 Snipers Hide edition AR-15 in 223 with a 9" twist. It was a basic AR, and nothing fancy. With tuned ammo shooting 68 or 69 grain bullets, it is a 3/4 moa rifle. I have shot this rifle in multiple team sniper matches with great success out to as far as 800 yards. If I feed it ammo it doesn't like, it can shoot 2"-3" very easily. When I feed it the load it likes, it will shoot 3/4". Same thing with my other custom AR-15 by Specialized Dynamics. I spent double on this rifle, and it will shoot near same hole with tuned ammo. It will shoot 4"-5" groups with the match ammo made for the other AR-15. It shot this other match ammo so bad, I thought my custom AR was messed up. So, I started over, and tuned it with a different powder, and it's near same hole at 100 yards. So my point is, you can take many AR's and feed it ammo that it doesn't like and it shoot bad. You can take a basic AR and feed it ammo tuned to the rifle, and it shoot very well. The main thing is getting one with a good barrel.

As is the case with most rifles these days.

And add in being built by someone that does it for a living, everyday, NOT a parts gun from a garage

So I'm good because mine were built in my gun room instead of a garage?

On a serious note; it really isn't all that complicated to build a tough as nails AR. It requires a very rudimentary mechanical ability. On the flip side though, it's easy to screw it up. Legions of home-built AR's are doing just fine. I'll even venture to say a lot of the great shooting AR's have to be one off builds from someone's home workshop due to the best parts in the market not being offered together.

good barrel good trigger and both installed correctly will get you there. Really when you think about it the rest is just window dressing.

Dedicated Technology is the best builder I have found but I am sure there are others.

Interesting story. I probably should've tried more loads with the two ARs I owned. They were both fine, but nothing special accuracy-wise. My non-magnified EOTech probably didn't help either. I didn't realize at the time how un-suited that optic was to my intended use. I just got a ridiculous discount on it and bought one because I'd heard they were good for ARs.

Did you find what ammo it liked best? All the ones I've seen were impressive.

If anyone wants my Grendel, it'll be out by the curb. It shoots sub-MOA with factory ammo (.5 with handloads) but unfortunately it was built in a garage, so it's trash.

That was good for a laugh.

I don't get the hate for home-built AR's. They act like it's some mystical art when in reality all you're basically doing is putting a detent in here, a spring there, and tightening a couple pieces.

The hate for garage or home built usually comes from businesses that do it for a living. Scare customers into thinking these rifles are junk so they buy store or factory built. A home/garage built AR if done correctly is just as good and sometimes better than a store built.

That being said not everyone can build them to shoot. It's not just throwing detects and springs together. Getting quality parts, making sure things are a snug/tight fit, proper torque(people tend to over tighten), quality barrel and squaring the receiver are important.

As Chad said earlier to get all the potential accuracy out of any rifle you need to tune the ammo for it.

Hunt N Fish, Texas AR looks very interesting. I see they don't offer a 14.5" barrel with 15" rail, could they do it?
