Why is savage axis bolt action so cheap? Is it not a quality gun? I found all of the caliburs are the same price low 330-250$. Ha if a left hand bolt action is that cheap there is a something up with them.

It is a no frills weapon, but if you find the ammo it likes those weapons can flat shoot!

Have one in .243 for my kids to shoot and it easily shoots better than I can.

I bought one in .223 and had a friend do a trigger job on it to set it at 2.5lbs. I let my dad "borrow" it 5 or so years ago and haven't seen it since....Lots of coyotes and armadillos wish I never let him "borrow" it, that is for certain.

As stated, they are no-frills firearms. Savage is well known for off the shelf accurate rifles though and you can either try different factory loads to find what it likes or if you reload, you can customize a load that shoots well in your rifle.
Some folks will use them as the basis for semi-custom rifles as well - swapping out the barrels and stocks and triggers and bottom metal and anything else to make a bug-hole shooter out of them.

Now that they're available with the accutrigger, they're very hard to beat for the $.

Savage Axis, Ruger American, Remington 700 economy variants, Mossberg Patriot...all sold at incredibly inexpensive prices. Makes you wonder if the companies make any money producing them. Mossberg's new patriot safari rifle in laminated stock, fluted bolt, in 375 ruger was priced on the shelf at one of my local dealers for $410.

It's cheap because it uses cheap materials and is mass produced with minimal hands-on work involved.

Thanks to technological advances ensuring uniformity in production, that doesn't mean it is inaccurate. In fact, it gets pretty great reviews for accuracy. I have had one as a truck gun since they first came out as the Savage "Edge" and it shoots great.

Cheaper materials (shows in the flexible stock and the bolt handle) pre-Accutrigger they have a horrible heavy trigger. But I suspect the barrel quality and chambering is in line with rest if Savage rifles and that being very good shooting barrels.
