I just bought a feeder with a 55 gallon drum and want ideas on a funnel to put inside My question, if you use one, do you prefer the plastic or metal funnel? I can see good and bad on both, just looking for ideas from people that have used either or both

I prefer the metal ones. You can get them online or at hunting shows. All Seasons sells them at their dealers. Just have to measure you 55 gallon drum to make sure it is the same diameter at the funnel. Not all drums are the same size inside.

I strongly prefer the galvanized metal funnels as well. The plastic, in addition to not being as strong, can actually cause moisture to condense between the funnel and drum, creating a rust line.
You can order online, but most feeder dealers and Bass Pro Shops have them as well.
And STX is right. If your feeder is made from a "juice drum" it will be slightly narrower. Good luck getting a metal funnel in that guy without cutting it.

Basspro has adjustable metal funnels for $19.99. Basically flat galvanized metal with predrilled holes. I've bought and used two, very easy to put in.

I have a heavy plastic funnel been in use about 14 years and no problems at all. Have used one of the flat wrap around metal funnels and it worked well, eventually rusted a bit on bottom. The flat wrap around is easy to work with.

I prefer metal due to the spout being a little longer and that works better with the eliminator plate.

I have both and no problems with either one. I throw a mix of corn, protein and wheat in the summer and mix of protein & corn in the winter. Never a problem with either funnel. Tried it without a funnel once and it was a disaster, it molded up like crazy.
