So, I want to invest in a good axe, and hatchet. This Leveaxe (linked video below) is supposed to be innovative, and better. No I know if it aint broke, don't fix it, and there are a lot of gimmicky ideas, that come out every day. The only reason I'm considering something like this, is because they have a Kickstater fund on it, and I can get one for a good deal less, than it may eventually cost.

I don't know a lot about using an axe. I've cut a lot of wood, but have never been taught how to use one properly. One think I don't like, is the way it flips to the side, when it strikes. It does this, because of the shape of the blade, and its counterbalance. I hate it when an axe flips on me. Now, that flipping motion is the very premise of this innovative idea. It's supposed to dig in, then pry cut pieces, when it flips, to the side. So, that makes the whole thing kind of weird.

Anyway, I'm just looking for opinions. I like simple stuff, really. Stuff I can keep up with, on my own. A simple blade, that I can sharpen, on my own. A handle I can repair, on my own.

Appreciate any ideas.

I can only say that he certainly isn't cutting post oak. I don't know about the axe but like the tire idea.

neat idea of using torsion but over time you will hurt your wrist or arms

you have a force coming down which your arms muscles/wrists are accustomed to
then at the dead end of a strike there's a twist that your wrist/arm muscles will
have to absorb,,,, it hurts my wrist just thinking about it

The WranglerStar guy reviewed an axe like that and it actually worked pretty well. I trust his opinion.

I personally do not like the looks of those kind of axes. I would have a hard time buying one.

Not really an axe, more of a maul. Also not very long lengths on the wood.
