The best ARs are parts guns that you build plus you end up with exactly what you want.

Pretty much....

Best off the shelf would be JP but they are built more for comp than anything.

All you really need is a good barrel, good trigger, and good FFT. Lowers are whatever and type of upper is subjective to your needs. I.E. when I built my daughters AR for hunting this year I opted for an Aero upper without a FA to slim it up a bit.

You're right, of course. There's no difference between Olympic Arms or Del-Ton and GA Precision or Wilson Combat. The $2500-$3000 price differential is just needless markup.

I don't know where you got that from my post. Can you point out where I said anything remotely related to your statement?

It's the one you own. Mine is an old Olympic arms a2 with no bells or wistles. Goes bang every time though.

Fair enough. I was being a bit of a smarty pants. In all honesty, I do agree with you that there's no substitute for handling firearms in person so that you can have an informed experience rather than just buying what's fashionable on a shooting forum. It's also true that people like Bill Wilson cruise these forums on a regular basis; while certainly not everyone here is a expert, we do have a legitimate sprinkling. There are enough to keep the rest of us honest, for the most part.

The best AR could also be the best you can afford!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Say what? cyclo

Panther 16 inch bull barrel .223 feels good and not too heavy. A better trigger is all it needs.

I have no idea what the best is, I am an AR dummy. But tonight I was in Walmart here and they had a Windham flat top marked down from $849 to $350 and I bought it. I have already had $350 worth of fun with it!

Leave it to Wal Mart to bring down the value of a product or throw the price waay off. Could you phathom trying to sell the same gun in a mom and pop gun store for lets say at the correct price. Big stores like Wal Mart can really throw the G + A market for a wild ride. I wished everybody would get back to normal on ammo prices and gun prices. Some real A holes started the price wars on the ammo a while back and It really pisses me off. Why not just do whats right and sell the items at the correct price. I do understand a sell, but who the hell can buy a new Windam flat top and turn around and sell it for a profit at 350 dollars?. Just the people that bought it from wal mart. No wonder nobody can sell ARs online when the people looking at them say but Wally World has them for half that price. Hey that is a good deal though. Wonder if wal mart bought it for ten dollars? I feel bad for the dude or dudets that bought it for the full price the day before they dropped the price. See what Im sayin.

WM is getting out of the AR business. That's why they're selling them so cheap.

Ahh I see. Yall laugh at what Im saying. Wait ten years from now and see if you can find a gun store still open that can actually work on a gun. Big chains like wal mart put the little guys out of business. Hey as long as there is wal mart and google this, I guess youll be just fine repairing or customizing your own guns. Im all about a deal too but Im pretty sure a dealer cant even buy a Windham flat top at their discounted price for that amount, but I wouldn't expect you to care. Ive seen some fine shops shut down due to the ease of ordering on the web, big chains like wally world, ect, and I guess you like high dollar ammo too. Everything needs to level back out. Hey if your a seasoned wal mart shopper more power to you. The k marts and targets quit selling hunting supplies in my area completely. You may look like a nut someday scrambling around trying to find some real help when your gun needs some pofessional assistance. Hey call Wal Marts gun repair guy, oh wait they don't have one and I don't make any sense at all. haha!

We're laughing at what you're saying because those were CLEARANCE prices. I don't know if there is any truth that Walmart is getting out of ARs, but I do know they were getting out of LAST YEAR's models on several guns, hence the clearance prices. As for shops shutting down, change is inevitable, and I haven't seen any 'high dollar' ammo at Walmart, only at LGS. Prices would level back out if idiots would quit hoarding the stuff. I know of a group in Lubbock that makes an Academy/Walmart run nearly every day and buys all the .22 LR they can get. I am willing to bet they are sitting on nearly 100k rounds or have somehow found a buyer. People like that are the problem, not you and me buying 500 rounds 3-4 times a year. As for guns needing professional assistance, those guys will be available, they just may not have a shop with 500 guns in it and 6 employees.

I have a Colt LE6920 that is a great rifle. I have shot about 1000 rounds of steel case through it with no issues, and several hundred rounds of brass case ammo through it with no problems. I have experimented with it shooting with a little oil and with a lot of oil. Works everytime. At 50 yards, I could hit a dime size target every time. With some brass case ammo, I could shoot very nice 1.5" groups at a hundred yards using my scope. A few times I had a 1" 3 shot group using some high end ammo. The M4 really isn't suited to bench shooting(IMO), so I only shot at paper a few times. I just shoot at steel targets, clay pigeons, and critters now. I plan on installing a better trigger, the milspec triggers aren't as nice as a good bolt action.

10 4 on the ammo info, its all just so frustrating sometimes. I see a lot of those type of folks online buying huge boxes of ammo and then selling it for 30 percent more than its actual value, if not more. The only little gun shop in Longview that actually was worth a hoot shut down, though they weren't the friendliest folks. Herd they had some FFL issues. 80,000 documented people and no freakin gun repair shop. Ill have to drive even further to Tyler I guess. You know when you need that specialty item and you don't want to wait to buy it like online. I hear yall on the sale, heck if our WM was dumb enough to drop those down to that price, I would buy a couple too. up
