I'm going to hunt a 6 acre plot in Dripping Springs. I've read about it and it is definitely possible. What do you guys know about it?

Someone will know for sure but I was under the impression that you had to have at least 10 acres to legally hunt.

best to check with TPWD as there seems like there is minimum acreage to hunt with bow and different for rifle. Likewise, if it's in the city jurisdiction (or a subdivision) there might also be different (stricter) rules there. I know one community (not an incorporated town) that you are not allow to hunt anything less than 10.01 acres within their jurisdiction. Better to check and find out for the exact area you are referring too.

It can very from county to county. I don't think that will be enough to firearm hunt. Call the county sheriff's office and they will tell you.

You can legally hunt on any size property that is not in a incorporated city limit. If it is in a city limit, it must be 10 acres or more and a shotgun may be used.

Medina County used to be over 10 acres or not in a platted subdivision. The subdivision I lived in had rules stating 100 contiguous acres or more to hunt.

Do you have a plan to recover the deer if or when it crosses a boundary line?

My dad can bowhunt on his place, a little less than 5 acres, in unincorporated Hays County, but he can't legally use a rifle. I don't remember if its a minimum of 5 or 10 acres, but his neighbor is a law enforcement officer and bowhunts his place of approximately the same size. It used to be a minimum of 2 acres in Hays County but apparently that has changed.

I'm hunting 5.1 acres between Wimberley and Dripping Springs. There are no State or County regulated restrictions on hunting a plot of land of less than 10 acres in Hays County (per Will Conley - Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3). There may be regulations per the subdivision or neighborhood of any given plot, so check those first. My particular plot has a subdivision which restricts hunting to bow and firearms with pelleted loads only. As previously stated, no projectile from gun or bow may cross property lines. To be sure, call or email your commissioner or TPWD. You can find your commissioner here: http://www.co.hays.tx.us/commissioner-precinct-3.aspx

I lived in that school district at one time. We had 80 acres and my temporary D head step dad wouldn't let me fish or hunt that place. It didn't last long thankfully. Turned out he was all around D head. My buddy just sent me a pic of his 6 acre ish back yard with about ten bucks in it. Awesome! and thats in east Tx. I used to count deer on the way to school fro our place in Dripping Springs. Always tons of em. up
