I just bought an Ameristep ground blind and went ahead and set it out to get the deer used to it. My buddy I was with when I put it out said I better not shoot through the provided screen on it. What is your opinion on this? Can you accurately shoot through them? Longest shot on my setup will be 40-45 yards.... Average shot will be 30 yards. Shooting fixed broadheads with a 65-70 lb pull Mathews bow. Thanks for the feedback.

IMO why risk it when we only get that one shot, I'd rather have the least amount of things that could go wrong on my hunts as possible. But I have heard of guys using them just not my thing hope that helps

Has been discussed several times before. Mechanical broad heads no some tend to open on the mesh. Non mechanical heads do not seem to be effected by the mesh.

When I first got a popup blind I shot several arrows through the mesh, the Muzzy heads I was using at the time shot to point of aim to the 30 yards I was shooting at, on the second shot one mechanical head opened do not even remember what brand that one was.

Also remember it will greatly reduce your sight in low light levels. My first year hunting out of a pop up I thought I would shoot through the mesh. Tried to draw on a deer early in the morning and couldn't see it well enough to shoot.

This^ or if the sun shines into your window you won't be able to see anything. Rising/setting sun

This has got to be the Million Dollar question.
So, I will respond as I always do.
Before you go on a hunt, do you practice before you go?
Do you ever practice with the BH's you plan on using during the season?
If you answered YES, then why haven't you made a couple of practice shots out of the blind you plan on using, with the BH's you will use and find out for yourself exactly how it will or will not affect your set up!!!!

Cross bow goes through it without issues. Son got a pig and a deer shooting through the mesh. Like suggested above I would test with your set up 1st.

Shooting through it just seems to be one more obstacle to have to deal with......One more thing to leave to chance.

He has a point. But we also know you don't want to tear up the mesh if you're ultimately going to decide not to shoot through it. Leave the mesh off, wear black and sit toward the back of the blind. You will be hidden and not have to worry about the mesh in the way.

I sit at the back of the blind and I'm blacked out means ( black shirt , black face paint and some on my hands )

Blind windows up front down. Sides up to darken the room.

Btw if you can open the windows a week before. Get them used to the movement the blind makes from the wind when the windows are open. Just my .02

From passed threads on this I know I'm in the minority here but I would say 90% of all animals I shot from a ground blind are through the net. My brother sat in my stand last year and commented on the amount of holes in the net so I counted them and there were over 30 holes in one net and most of those were kills. I don't see it effecting my accuracy at all. I've shot crows and squirrels out to 30 yards so unless I get lucky a lot the net has not effected me. I shoot all fixed blades all the time.

I wouldn't chance it on any animal, really don't need to as stated.

That's a difference maker. But the mesh has other issues as well. Especially in low light.

I have a ground blind with no top and net over the windows and have no issues with seeing. The sun can make it hard to see through if you don't pay attention to the direction you put your blind. I suspect I'll kill a half dozen hogs and deer again this year through it like I always do.
