Wife and I headed down next Monday to start from. What's authentic there and not tourist driven?
Thanks all.

Pier 8 seafood market.
Pick your seafood out, and they will fry it or boil it for you.
Great fish and shrimp with just a thin breading.

Everything in Kemah is for tourists. Get off the beaten path. Go down the road a few miles to San Leon. Find the Surfside Grill. Great place, off the beaten path, full of local folks.

Now, the wonderful fresh shrimp and oysters in Kemah is all for me, but I get it and head back to the house in San Leon to prepare it.

Always go to outriggers when we're down that way. More of a bar atmosphere and can sit out back and watch the boats and their ornaments go by.

Cast is right. "Everything" in Kemah is tourist driven. You do have to get off of the main tourist track to find anything authentic. I believe Cast is on to something by suggesting Surfside Grill in San Leon. That may be a little "food for thought" for you if you don't want touristy. smile
