Its always been called Rat Shot where I come from and always the crimped kind. Itll kill a rats or a snake easily within a few yards with a pistol. More from a rifle.
It ain't easy being me.

And the plastic capped CCI is the one I said would not put a whelp on a snake. I am not gonna go spend $15 for 10 rds to see if they are more powerful than they used to be!

I have never seen them kill anything. Maybe it's a marksmanship issue then? .22LR shot shells have been killing the largest American snakes since they've been in production. I have killed many and have never seen a snake shake any off. Ever. Period. If you hit what you're aiming at (should be the head), then that's a dead snake. End of story. Oh you got me there. I knew I shouldn't have came back to the thread. Never had a problem killing them with even just a pellet rifle, as long as I have understood where to place the shot. Even with just a little .177 pump up. I don't know how you get marksmanship problems out of that statement, but I digress. I never meant any of it to be a jab at anybody. I am just telling the truth like it is. The .22 shotshells are ineffective, and honestly, inhumane. They shouldn't be used to dispatch anything. At the given range on a given animal that they MIGHT be effective on, you might as well club the critter in the head with a heavy stick or chop it off with a hoe. At least that's a quick, clean kill. I will never understand why anybody would insist on using them. Keep using something else, that leaves more for those of us that have never had a problem with their effectiveness on snakes. Not saying you didn't get some bad ones as I think there was a recall years ago for a couple lots of them. I do agree the crimped ones work better with their larger payload of shot but both work at close range. Pellet guns do also and have killed a few snakes with them.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Never had a problem killing snakes with plastic capped 22lr shot shells. I don't carry my 22lr with me now, I usually carry a 22wmr with the shotshells for snake dispatching.
