Hold up big guy, first off you need to do some research. If you don't you might buy the wrong scope for your needs and wind up buying 2 or 3 before you get the right one. They're expensive enough without buying the wrong gear. There's also a company that rent's thermal gear. You can rent it and if you like it deduct the rental price from the purchase price of the equipment.
Check out youtube video's, do a google search for thermal scopes, go to some of the night vision retailers and read their info on thermals. Ask some questions about the different models. Establish a budget, and get ready to double it. It's still cheaper than a $40,000 bass boat.
Hope this helps.
God Bless

Yes as Customcutter says there is much to learn about thermal other than selection and price. The various companies all have plus and minus things to consider, core technology, made in the US or not, lens quality/size.
You need to determine your use, distances, rifle, current optics and if you are going to use the gun mounted sight to scan or use nightvision or a monocular. Trust me it is a daunting task and a very expensive one should you make a mistake. Good Luck!

That's what I've been doing for about the last month. So far price wise it goes to a guy I met at the TTHA show. I don't need a lot of the features that some of them have, and there is a lot of overkill on some models and brands. To me it's like buying a car, and costs almost as much! I was just looking for other options to check out and compare. The rent a scope option is something I'm looking at also. (I've got time, I'm waiting on my can to come in)

I just bought my first thermal after doing almost 3 months of research. I thought I was going to get in the game with the best value I could find under 4K. I wound up buying a buying a very good scope at over 6K. As I did my research, my priorities changed as I educated myself about the subject.
God Bless

I have two thermal scopes and a monocular. Most of the time I use the thermal monocular for viewing and a night scope for killing. All of my NV,thermal scopes have QD mounts and are sighted to the weapon, so I can use one of my thermal scopes as a viewer and do a quick swap if my NV scope craps the bed. It has and will happen, as anything that runs on batteries will fail when you need it. If you can afford it, the above advice on rentals is a great option. Do your homework, as if you don't like a scope, the rental fee won't be available to put towards another scope purchase. I just sold my ATN thor and got a less complicated Elcan. It runs on AA batteries and is just an on/off unit. Now 95% of my NV gear runs on AA batteries and are simple to use. With thermal, the more you spend the better it gets (and to me),sometimes the more complicated it gets too. Keep it simple and you'll be a lot happier. There are a lot of pig hunters out there using thermal now, and they would be a good source of knowledge and advice. Good Luck
