A couple friends and I went and shot some clay birds yesterday in the 100 degree temps, obviously we were running our barrels extremely hot. My buddy has old nova that he was shooting and decided to dip it in the tank that was on the property to cool it down. Aside from the obvious cleaning that would need to take place, ant input on this warping or bending the barrel from cooling so quickly? I know people use different methods for cooling rifle barrels, but shotguns run thinner and just got me to thinking.

I was at Elm Fork one time and they were selling a dingus that was a section of PVC with a battery-powered fan at the top. You put it over your barrel and it would blow air down the barrel, inside and out. Worked pretty well, actually. Was going to buy one, but thought I could make one better and cheaper myself - just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I use a battery powered air mattress pump with a length of hose to stuff into the chamber. Works great for me. It cuts my summer time cooling sessions down to less than 15 minutes versus closer to 50 minutes without.

It's a shotgun...shoot it until you melt it. Rifles are a different deal completely and heat kills barrel life via throat erosion.
