Wouldn't that be pretty close to Kickapoo Caverns State Park? It seems that there are cases nearly every year in that vicinity. I guess we'll find out soon how serious an outbreak it is.

Yep it's a little south of Kickapoo I think.
That area has some every year I believe. Some years are just much worse than others.

I thought Kickapoo was in Edwards County. Kinney Co is south of that. This would have to be further east of Kickapoo if the case is in Uvalde County.
Everytime I hear anthrax, I think Whitetail, but apparently this report is horse(s).

Google Earth says it's 42.5 miles from Uvalde to Kicapoo basically NW so the Anthrax outbreak should be close to 15 miles from the Park. I'd call that Texas close.

Yeah I know guys that can spit 15 miles. And southeast of rock springs is closer than south.
If a horse has it you can bet it's in the surrounding deer population.

I hunted in bracketville (Kinney county) and they had biologist every where and we couldn't pick up any dead deer heads, no matter the size and there were some big ones lying dead. Anthrax had raised its ugly head! We were told if we shot one it had to be taken to the test sight, head removed and sent to Austin. Needless to say we just observed that year!

It's Texas...it is pretty much in the soil everywhere. I can remember going out with my dad to burn carcasses when I was 10 - 12 years old. It used to be Anthrax and Blackleg, but he vaccine has pretty much done away with Blackleg. I'm not sure why Anthrax vaccine is not used until there is a problem.
Old timers say you should never shred or cut hay if it is dry enough to kick up dust. Something about kicking up the spores in the dust and them settling on the vegetation.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Although anthrax can occur anywhere in Texas it's common in the triangle bounded by Uvalde, Ozona, and Eagle Pass. The referenced case is inside the triangle. Cases inside the triangle don't cause a panic, unless theres an extensive outbreak, people vaccinate their livestock and hope for the best.
