This will be the first season my 10 year old daughter will head afield in search of her first deer. A good friend is currently taking her through a hunter safety class in Kansas while I'm over here. The test is tomorrow (Saturday) and she's a bit nervous, but she's a very smart cookie. While I'm certain she'll do just fine, and I've never known any man, woman, or child to fail any hunter safety test, what if she doesn't do well?

The way I read the Texas regulation, as long as she's licensed and hunting with someone over 17 who has completed hunter's safety, she should be good to go.

I think you read that right. Without HE, she can get a license till 16, at 17 a waver, and hunt as long as she is accompanied.
When my daughters got their HE (about 10 and 14 years ago) we waited till they were 12 years old. There was some issue at the time in Texas (may still be?) that if you took the course before 12 years old, you would have to take it again after you turned 12.
I have no doubt that she will do fine, maybe even beat the older guys at the test.

I think they changed that 12 years old requirement. The minimum age is 9 years for HE. Thanks again!

Awesome and congrats. It is a good feeling getting that out of the way. I have seen at least 6 hunters that had to do the waver, and then frantically do their HE just before hunting the next year.
My girls did very well on their test as well, girls must be more attentive.
