Anyone have a solution for him other than a shot-gun. Chickens are in a pen.

Cookies and tea party ?? what about one of dukes traps, marshmellows, tuna, something different that might attract him.... Haul him to woods across town and let him go.

Sounds like a few Buffalo wings would be better bait for this coon.

Coons should never get a pass. Had one as a pet. Nasty, vile creatures. Show up in my yard, get a free ride to the city land fill. Was thinking last night, bet I've sent a hundred pounds of coon carcass to the land fill, just from my back porch.

The raccoon knows where the chickens are and what they taste like. Do everyone a favor and eradicate your pest before he invites friends.

Do what my brother did. After he "thought" he had everything sealed off with chicken wire and still came out with dead chickens, he did a little search on the internet. He found a recipe for some "coon aide". It was fly bait mixed up with a Big Red soda. Put it in a pan and next day, coon was still at pan deader than a door knob. All he had to do was scoop it up and take it back to the back forty for the coyotes. No traps to buy, no live coons to deal with, and he didn't have to waste any ammo.

Raccoons are easy to trap. We had to trap them around my grandmothers egg layer houses all the time. We used small animal box traps with eggs or wet cat food and achieved great success. You may want to tie a nylon rope on top of the handle of the cage(50 ft long) in case you catch a skunk in it, rather than a coon. The rope is used to move the cage away so you can dispose of the animal in the trap. Make sure you tie the other end of the rope to something so it doesn't get pulled inside by the critter you catch.

I'm pretty sure that is illegal to set out poison bait where an animal can get to it that the product is not intended for. That fly bait can kill anything that eats it, not just flies. I would advise to stay away from using any kind of poison bait to handle this situation.

Yes, it is definitely illegal with BIG TIME fines and penalties. If you get caught, forget about hunting/voting the rest of your life.

It is also incredibly unethical. There have been stories about folks doing this and killing off numbers of deer, cows, dogs, etc. Stories are stories - but it is a real possibility of killing unintended animals. Also, if it rains - the poison can seep into ponds and creeks.

PLEASE - don't do it!
