I'm thinking about a NM grouse hunt. Are there any in the Cloudcroft/Ruidoso area or do I have to go north? Not much interweb info on this. Not looking for guides, just public land hunting. Any of yall done this?

Since I didn't know for certain, I was going to wait and see what responses you had, but since you haven't had any I'll chip in that I hear you can find blue grouse in the mountains near Riadosa (sp?) Again, don't know for certain

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I live in New Mexico "but hunt as often as I can afford" in Texas. There are NO grouse in the Ruidoso area. You got to go north. The Jemez mountains has decent numbers, also the Pecos wilderness holds a decent numbers of birds. If you go to Las Vegas NM and head west up into the high country you should find birds. A dog is very helpful, hunt high up in the aspens. Good luck, I will be out trying to harvest a few myself.
