I think CR's bee extermination project was really a "relocation" project under my blind. bolt I was out filling feeders today in the 100 degree temps, (never again) and I just happened to look up at the blind and see this. Wasn't exactly sure what it was, but didn't take long to figure out. Didn't even bother getting out. Drove up, snapped some pics and see ya later! Time to get the bee keeper out, if I can find one. Otherwise there will be a very large fire out in West Texas and it won't be gas flare.

Wait for a cool front and attack them at night.

No choice but to burn the blind down. grin

Seriously though, if you can't locate a beekeeper and have no other choice but to eliminate them, go at night with powdered borax in a puffer bottle and douse the hive. Bees can't see at night and are very docile in the dark.

Where is your lease. If it is close to Albany I'll come get them.

Lol. I have no idea. The hive appears to be attached just to the underneath side. That blind isn't the most airtight thing in the world as I inherited it when I signed the lease and haven't done much upkeep on it other than spray foam the inside cracks between the plywood and 2x4's. I guess we will find out how well my foam job was.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the rancher I lease from has had this problem before and knew a guy that helped him out a few years ago. He found his number and I placed the call. I am meeting him out there next week to settle this once and for all. And I, like you, will enjoy it all from the comfort of inside my truck eating some biscuits and sausage that Western recommended. peep

Bees are wonderful and we will be extinct without them. Find a bee keeper in the area, (there will be one) and let them come out and move them. up

Once the hive is removed, you have to eliminate any traces of the honeycomb. Otherwise another bee colony will take up residence.

For the record my friend, I called and called looking for a beekeeper, trying to avoid eradication. No one would come out that far.

The gentlemen's main goal is to capture and relocate to a local bee keeper. He just finished up a project on a ranch north of us and did one for my rancher a few years back. He has done this for years and know exactly what to do. If for any reason he can't successfully get the hive (queen included) he asked if I was okay with eliminating them. His priorities are correct and I trust he will do all he can to relocate them. Unless of course they are the Africanized type then it's lights out. I am fine with however it plays out.

I believe you my friend. Sometimes you can just be too far away for them to come out. And sometimes where the hive is located makes it very difficult as well. cheers
