Does .280 COAL seems to be as critical as some of the other rounds? Was reading the post about the 6.5 creed. I have one that the COAL is a little long for my magazine, and doesn't feed smoothly.

Seating depth and accuracy IMO is more dependent on the bullet than the cartridge. There are lots of combinations that produce good accuracy with considerable jump to the lands.

For hunting rounds I seat so the rounds will function well through the magazine. On controlled round feed guns it is a must since you feed them through the magazine, on push feed and single shots you can go longer since the Mag is not needed to feed the round into the chamber.
