I'm new to Texas just moved to San Antonio area (Castroville) from Alabama. I am an avid bow hunter looking for a small piece of land for myself to lease or maybe with a few other hunters. Preferably within an hours drive. Being new to area I have no connections and don't hardly know a soul. If anyone has any suggestions or leads please let me know. Thanks

Why does it seem so rare here to find a 80-100 acre lease for one person for about $1,000?

Most landowners that have 80-100 acres hunt it themselves.

If you own 100 acres, especially within 1 hour of San Antonio (or any other city), you property is probably worth $500,000 at least. That type of person doesn't need your $1,000. Especially to have somebody come out to their place all the time, & bring a bunch of [censored].

Come on.

also there are folks with 100 acres who try to put 5 guns on it! But at the end of the day it is supply and demand

Most properties that size aren't working properties, so they're likely to be 2nd homes or recreational land. $1000 isn't going to make it worth it, or even if they want to lease it out, they can very, very easily find someone they know and trust that will lift it for that.

I'd be in a very similar situation with my smaller acreage property.

First of all welcome to Texas, I live near Castroville and it s a good area to live. Unless you are willing to pay 2500.00 and up to join a larger lease you will probably be looking for years. The Texas hunting scene in your area has gone strictly to well off landowners who don't lease, large leases farther west of you around Del Rio that are about 2000.00 and up a gun, and corporate leases which belong to companies. The only 1000.00 leases are back towards your homeland in east Texas and the hunting is not as good there. You may wanna book something on here in the guide section to get your fix this year.

After looking with no luck I've realized this. I'd be willing to pay a little more and join a group of hunters but I can't even seem to find that.

Define "pay a little more".

I think the part of the puzzle you're missing is that the area around San Antonio (particularly South and West) is some of the very best part of the state to hunt.

Even joining a big group of hunters, you're probably looking at $4k on up for a quality spot.

$1000 in that part of Texas is the corn bill.
