Advice needed. My last trip to Texas checking on my property I was more than surprised to see this. The huisache has quickly grown into a jungle. It sure did not look like this a month ago. This jungle is so thick even the deer or hogs are avoiding it, going around instead of through. I guess all that rain had to grow something! It is 6 - 7 feet tall, and grew so quick.

Now I have read ( Texas A&M) to wait until Fall/cooler weather, then broadcast spray it to kill it.. But I'm wanting to get out there & mow it up now before the seeds pop out. Any advice how you guys handle these invasive land grabbers? Thanks.

Here is what the size of it was june 16th. The stuff really grows & is no good for even wildlife. Need to here you guys' opinion on control. Thanks!

Pretty sure that's not huisache. Its some other kind of brush that grows around water, make seed pods. It doesn't have thorns if im right.

I'd just mulch it up with the bush hog.

I thought deer liked huisache? +1 on the bush hog.

Its called Bag-Pod Sesbania. We have quite a bit of it around our tank.

You are right Redchevy. It is the Sesbania plant. Says it is quite toxic to livestock, other animals, & humans if eaten! Guess I'll plan on bush-hogging it & spraying to try and control it. Thanks for the info, guys!

Before cutting it, check with a plant expert or extension agent. Sometimes cutting spreads certain invasives. Also, inquire about a controlled burn as an alternative, which sometimes opens up a seed bank of native grasses and forbs.

I looked around I couldn't find anything on bag pod sesbania but for hemp sebania mowing before seed set is critical. Post emergence, glyphosate via a wicking application, is the preferred control measure around broad leafs and 2-4D for grass pastures.

We always called them seedy bean bushes. When the seed pods dry up and you bump into one, sounds like a rattle snake. Not good for anything I have ever seen. Mow or spray before seed drops, don't know when that is though.

Thanks for the info guys. Definitely get to mowing it up & I'll check the local farm feed store about spraying it. Unbelievable how fast & tall & thick this stuff grew. Crazy how driving down the road and most places are clean of it, then the neighbor field has it growing. I'm sure it is just another invasive that needs to be controlled year to year.

We call it sinne bean(spelling). Every waterhole around here has it growing! Cows are plentiful and it doesent bother them, like that article suggest!
