Thinking of possibly changing my stock and noticed these seem affordable (for me) at less than $200. I can't, and probably wouldn't anyway, swing $5-6-800 for the big boys. Thoughts?

Save a little more and buy a Bell and Carlson. You can find them used at times for $200.00 or buy a ew one from Stocky Stocks.

There is a HS Precision stock for sale in the classifieds. I'd take the HS or B&C over Choate.

It's the Yugo of the stock world....and they weight a freakin TON! I'd save more money as bigjoe suggested.

It's a short-action, two-piece bottom Win M70, makes the available options out there much more limited and much pricier. From Stocky, I could get a B&C for $270 but it takes new bottom metal at $135, doubling the price of the Choate. The HS is $347. Both are on back order, so who knows when they might actually come in?

Other than weight, which doesn't really bother me for this gun, is there an objection to the Choate? I hear the grip is really big?

Meh!!! Agree, you can do MUCH better.

IMO, its about as UGLY as they come but that's me.

Keep shopping and something will pop up.

Just saw your budget, stick with your current stock.

I have the Choate Tactical Stock on my 700 and its a great stock. I am shooting .3 inch groups on the regular, the grip is thick but I will say I like it.

There are those who read of what others have done, then there are those like me who do what others read about.

They are not that bad..we have one of the tac stocks mated to a Rem 700 in a 338 rum...it is a solid platform, but the other posters are correct. They are very heavy...for a little more you can do better...
