Turned out to be a short hunt, but nearly 6 hours of tracking and retracking sign through the woods over 2 days before we finally found the old girl. My daughter was a trooper through all of it. I think she would have led the way through the brush as we searched for the hog, but I made her wait in the cart most of the time. This morning, we retraced the trail and when my buddy showed up to help, my daughter toured him through the woods like an experienced tracker to where we had lost the trail. My buddy found some sign we had missed and between the three of us leapfrogging one another to find new sign, we soon found the hog. It was a big milk sow (still lactating). The bullet (6.5 Grendel Hornady SST 123 gr factory round) appeared to have entered just behind the shoulder and then expanded/exploded violently, blowing out a racquetball-sized hole in the side of the sow as well as damaging at least one artery and one lung. Turned out to be a fine learning experience with a happy ending. The land owner was also quite pleased.

Atta Girl.....! Good Job Dad! Thanks for sharing. Mine shot her first hog at age 14 (that was 15 years ago).

Hey the first one doesn't always mean its the easiest one. Sounds like she got the full effect of the word hunting. Good job on the kill and the tracking job. My friends have called me up on some real dooseys.

Six hours of tracking is tough. Congrats and glad you found the hog. We would have gone back tomorrow and found it by smell, if necessary! We knew from the amount of blood and the various segments of tissue that the hog was going to be dead. It was just a matter of finding it. A lot of that 6 hours was lopping limbs and vines to get through the brush. Hogs apparently don't feel briars and aren't allergic to poison ivy, but we do and we are, LOL.

First harvest of any game is a memorable experience. You will share those memories with your daughter for years to come.

Awesome job. I also have hunting daughters. It was interesting when they got old enough to move out and be on their own, I actually got to hunt again. I went years without shooting anything, they took care of that for me.

Great video and congrats to your daughter. I love hunting, but not as much as enjoy taking my daughters hunting and mine are grown.
If I ever shoot another pig that runs off I'm calling to help track the thing

I know you two have been working toward this for a long time. Congrats on persevering, you and her. She has been several times when it just didn't come together....which taught her that it was hunting, not killing. You two will share all of this for a lifetime. Nothing can be better than that...

A lot of that 6 hours was lopping limbs and vines to get through the brush I can definitely relate to that. In fact...it is one of the reasons I try SO HARD to get a neck shot. Not always possible...of course. I have tracked hogs through brush and briers that literally had ME leaving more of a blood trail than them! Good job...all around, Dad! Flint.

Very nice. Having folks share their kids' first hogs (pics) would be cool.

Very nice. Having folks share their kids' first hogs (pics) would be cool. Good job Dad! My kids had shot pigs when younger in traps but I don't count them. Here is a pic of my oldest daughter's 1'st pig. 243 @ 100 yrds. My oldest son's 1'st pig, in the noggin' with a 243 @ 100 yrds. First pig they trapped together, 1'st pig my daughter shot (22 pistol) she was pushing me out of the way to go in and drag it out. 1'st pigs they shot w/rifles together, on three @ 100 yrds w/243's.... First time I let my son leave my side and hunt with a good friend, I was nervous, he shot the 1'st one that night. The one on the bottom right with the nice cutters. 100 yrds in the forehead with a Barnes bullet w/ night vision.
