Four out of 3098 bucks grossed above 180, two out of 3098 grossed above 190, and only one buck in 13 years involving nearly 5000 capture records gross scored above 200.

“That gives you an idea of how rare those really big native deer are in the wild,” Hellickson told listeners. “In fact, the average gross score of the bucks captured in this study that were 5.5 years or older was 130.”

Also tells me I might need to adjust my expectations and quit griping about only seeing 120" 8s.

We will pick certain years and go 8 Point only and thin that out...

Not enough, more than enough. Rain creates a ton of resources, downside is it also leaches nutrients. Fewer mouths aren't going to alter soil issues contributing to the nutritional probs.

I realize I know "squat" compared to most on here. How do you manage deer when you don't know what the following year will be like? It may be a wet year and the CC is 1 deer to 10 acres. It may turn off dry and the CC is going to be 1 deer to 50. Unless you have very deep pockets and don't really care what it cost to feed the deer it really doesn't matter. CC's are not in that equation.

Ours doesn't vary as much as other areas. A lot of people figured out this year that the over abundance of rain hurt them more than it helped. Our place just isn't set up that way.

Do you have spikes?

Yes and 180" plus deer. So are you saying if I kill all my spikes I will have 250" deer?

I never breaded a camel but I did have a chicken fried steak at Herman Sons in Hondo at lunch today.
