Going to be a little different this year. Sunflowers are so tall and thick I'm mowing about 40 yards around the outside edge of the fields. If I don't guys won't be able to find their birds. Going to mow some strips in the middle but that will be more for the birds. Got one field mowed, 4 more to go. After I finish mowing I'll disc some strips. Slow going on the mowing, man the fields are thick,,almost too thick.

I curious how grown up our place is. One of the ranchers said it was pretty thick with birds a plenty.

A lot of my neighbors sold their Sunflower fields to Turner Seed for the native seeds. I guess they make more money from selling seeds than Dove hunters. I know last year a 50 pound bag of native seeds were $450.They're all harvested and mowed now. I should have lots of birds this year, a lot here now.

I guarantee you, I have some that are 10'. I have a Kubota 125 and a few are as high as the cad and the stalks are as big as my wrist. I have a 15' batwing and I'm mowing in low range. I rebuilt the mower last year and dropped 7k in it, glad I did, it's getting a workout.

I tried to sell mine and they said they had too many. My neighbor got 31k off his 29 acre field, my luck a day late and a dollar short. Man there are a ton of birds out here though. I think all of the neighbors harvesting their seeds has about tripled the birds at my place.
If anyone is interested I have 120 acres of sunflowers for lease! Just decided to lease it.

Looking forward to another great year...save a good shade tree for me!
