My son has taken several animals over the last few years, but never with a bow. He has been practicing with his Mission Riot bow for a year and I felt like he would be ready to bow hunt for deer this year. I decided to let him try to shoot a hog first, to make sure he could pull it off successfully (buck fever can get the best of us. Haha!)
A buddy of mine has had hogs coming in at the ranch he runs out by Possum Kingdom. He set up a few hay bales as a make-shift blind and starting putting corn out a few days before we got there (last Wednesday).
We got in the blind at 7pm. It was hot...but hey, we were hunting!!! 10 minutes after we got there a group of hogs came in behind us (down wind) to a tank. After watering for a few minutes they starting making their way towards us. A couple of the biggest ones winded us and took off. But the smaller ones came on it. Hudson had 6 hogs about the same size to pick from. He picked the "red one". He slowly stood up, drew his bow, anchored, aimed, and slowly pulled the release.
THWACK!!! Perfect shot! Ran about 75 yards and folded up. Hudson was calm and made an awesome shot. So proud of him!
Can't wait till he gets to draw back on a deer this year now!
