Our hunting lease in Trinity County got new land owners and in the past we could get anyone we knew to do the mowing around the lease but now they just told us we have to I guess use a contractor and they have to provide proof of liability insurance up to 1 million dollars and the land manager has to call his insurance agent and get the contractor people added to his policy

Anyone have to do this too and might be able to recommend any contractors in the area?

I don't have a tractor and cant think of a way to clear a trail down a pipe line to be able to get to my stand so i don't have to walk through high grass all the way anyone got any ideas on how to do that with just a truck or UTV? i looked up tow behind mowers but cant find any that i can rent

guessing its due to potential liability issues and all the lawsuit happy people and ambulance chasing lawyers these days ... I seriously doubt any of the locals that you have used previously carry that kind of liability coverage either.

If you have a ATV of some sort you could get a pull behind mower. I've seen them used for 350-500 on the internet.

In God we trust, all others we run through NCIC.

The pipeline company does mow but they only mow every other year so far, are they supposed to mow every year?

I was thinking about buying a pull behind but would only use it 2 times a year and renting one seems like the best option but cant find a pull behind for a UTV to rent, renting a tractor seems like our only option but is looking like its going to cost a pretty penny

If they are so worried about mowing just think what else is coming.

Your new land owners are wealthy. Good luck to you on this.

My bet is his new landowners are a corporation of some kind. Might not be a lease for too long.

Depends on the agreement. Older ones probably aren't going to be mowed every year be they were designed for tree control, not so much grass/weed maintenance.

I used to carry coverage because one of my clients required it. $600/yr bought me around $250,000 of liability. Personally if I was going to start back doing that I would see what $1mil would cost me-people are too litigious these days and you definitely need to CYA.

I've seen plenty of landowners, corp and non-corp, that require such these days and while it was an affront to get invited for a weekend and get hit with a form to sign upon arrival, I understand why they are doing it.

I would start prepping for what sounds like the inevitable, though. Leasing is a tough business.

DR Field and Brush mower, most rental places have them. Self propelled, easy to operate.
