I know it's a good thing when a dog has a shiny coat, but I'm wondering will it flare birds? What do y'all do? Throw mud on them after every retrieve?

I got one that matches the grass better than camo and the other blacker than coal. I don't do anything to them camo wise.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had birds try to land on my dogs in all kinds of situations and positions.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I hunt open water and usually have little cover and find a stump to sit on. I have a dog stand for him

I have never felt like a well-trained dog that sits still spooks birds. Dogs that don't behave and move around and make noise will definitely spook birds, but I wouldn't worry about a shiny coat at all.
