I have a Smith and Wesson model 66 (pre 1993 model) that I need to have drilled and tapped for a scope mount I'm going to purchase. I'm in the Killeen/Ft Hood area and spoke to a gun shop owner that I have the upmost trust in and he said that there was no one short of Dallas he would recommend. This is a very special handgun to me and I wouldn't be able to stand to see a botched job. A couple of guys suggested I look at RD's Custom Guns and Ammunition out of Nacogdoches. Does anyone know much about them or any other recommendations closer to me? Thanks for any input!!

No way would I drill and tap an older Smith. Look at the scope mounts that replace the rear sight.

Revoman, I don't want to do it at all, but I have been unable to find a bracket that mounts to a single hole that the pre 1993 models have. after 1993 they were all drilled and tapped with 3 holes. if you could point me in the right direction to one that would mount solidly with the single hole, I would appreciate it. This weapon was my father's service revolver for many years, so it holds special meaning to me, so i do want to alter it, but I also don't feel the need to have it sitting around without using it. below is a link to the best mount I have found so far, but it is the one that requires the drilling and tapping of the 2 additional holes. Scope Basein addition I've found a pretty reputable place to do the work out of Spring, Texas that could do the work. I emailed them with my questions and concerns last night and waiting to hear back from them. I'll post their website below because I ALWAYS value others opinions!! MG Arms Thanks for any other options and or suggestions anyone might have. Also I'm a pretty good shot open sights, but my shot from blind to feeder is right at 60 yards and I just want the extra peace of mind of the reflex sight. I owe it to the animal to make an ethical shot.

I'd keep the model 66 like it is, and buy a different gun (maybe a beater 66 that shoots well) to put a reflex sight on.
Have you considered crimson trace laser sights? - No modification of the gun required, and they should do a good job at 60 yards.
Just as good as a reflex sight for that range, I would think.

Like the rest of the responses I would keep it classic without drilling. Best S&W smith I know of is Frank Smith. Have shot and handled some that he worked on and when he does an action and trigger job on a S&W revolver it is every bit as sweet as one from their Performance Center if not better. Might check with him and see if he has or knows where to find the no drill mount. http://www.lsgmfg.com/Check with him, he might do the work or know someone that will take care of you.
