Do any of you hunt hogs with a 22 hornet? I have a chance to pick one up. But mainly wanting a low caliber hog rifle.

I figured in 2 hrs I would have had lots of replies. Guessing this in not a round to get for hogs at all.

It could work but there are many others that would work much better for a small caliber hog gun

Hey if they are killing hogs with 17hmr's and 22 magnums I'd think the 22 hornet would be better plus you can reload them also. My .02

I have a heavy Savage 12 with a 26" heavy barrel. But want a lighter packing rifle. I have killed hogs with dirt nap. every time. But found a guy wanting my savage and has a hornet. So figure I would see what you all thought.

I suppose it would work on hogs. Compared to a 223 though, your range will be a good bit less and I don't know if you could shoot the good pig bullets in a Hornet.

Yes, would work but head shots only and at close range.

Man I slay em with the .223 all the time. I wouldn't have a problem at all with the 22 hornet other than the availability and price of the ammo. Ive killed a crap load with a .22 rim fire and recently purchased a marlin ss bb .22 mag bolt gun for hogs. I like the very light rim fires while fishing in the spring around ponds. I throw them over my shoulder, and if a target jumps out, it may get shot. I aim for the ear area and high on the shoulder where it meets the spine is a real hog dropper. Just saw your write up, good luck. up

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

Not the best hog round, any round will kill a hog if you shoot it in the ear but I am not sure the 22 hornet could penetrate clean to the vitals on a big mudded up boar. I like my hornet but not for hogs...

Use it and give us a range report. Otherwise post pics of the ER visit.

Sold my hornet years ago. It shot good enough at first the started straying a bit then the brass started to split. It's not a good combo. Get a 223 instead.

I have shot many hogs with a 22 Hornet up to 150 yards. IMO a great hog gun. As Breadman said "shot placement is everything."

22 hornet is very akin to 22magnum....its a little saucier but not much. it'll definitely kill hogs...head shots would be best. if you want something smaller caliber...go with .223 its much more common. I've killed many hogs and deer both with mine. shoot a good bonded bullet. not the varmint ammo. it'll surprise you.

around here (central Louisiana),the guy with the most success on hogs I know uses .22lr 40 gr. solid with the tip flattened ,keeps shots to 50 and under and puts 'em in the ear..., and he puts up A LOT OF SAUSAGE !!!, the hornet will do it's part if you will;...use a tough bullet.
