Anyone hunt over this? My place is covered in it. Seems like seeds are gone by the time ducks get here. Thought about killing it back. So thick in some places ducks have no where to land.

Most of the seeds are still there somewhere, just fallen off/outta the head. Have been told by more than one biologist that the seeds from that variety are actually harder for birds to digest due to some sort of coating that it naturally has. I've tried a lot of things to try to get the annual(big pink bloom) to grow year after year. But, have not had any huge success stories yet. Some good scattered stands here and there, but not the results Im looking for. And if I have to plant every year...why not plant millet, rice, and milo?

Smartweed is a great source of both seeds and invertebrates for ducks. In my experience the pink variety attracts ducks better but the perennial (white) attracts them as well. The seeds will fall to the bottom and the ducks will get them out of the soil. That being said you have to have holes for them to land in. I would probably thin it out mechanically if that isnt enough then move to an aquatic herbicide.
