We were at the TGR banquet in San Antonio today and my daughter won a free black bear hunt. My father and I go with her in Spring 2016 for the earliest we can afford to go with her and plan it out. Horseshoe Outfitters is who we are going with. We will be hunting near Fort Saint John in BC. I hear nothing but great things about the area we are hunting and I know in the fall would be what I prefer but timing doesn't work out with her school activities. I'm taking the bow and daughter and my dad are going rifle. 6 days to hunt. So awesome!

Just noticed I typed the wrong name of the outfitter. It's Horseshoe Creek Outfitters Limited.

This must be Ray Jackson's outfit, right? He has some really good deer hunting in his area, both WT and muleys. Although I've never hunted with Ray, I have two close friends who hunted mule deer with him. One struck out because he didn't see a sizeable buck. The other, the late Dick Jacobs, switched to whitetails after seeing so many big bucks and ended up shooting a 178 B&C net, which is well up in the books.

Jackson ranches and hunts in the Pease River valley, so I'm betting there will be plenty of bears to look over. I've heard--hearsay only--that there can be some personality conflicts, alpha male issues mainly. But unless you're a cage fighter, road-rage type, you should get along just fine. There's no denying the quality of the hunts, for sure.

He is here personally at the banquet and I'm feeling pretty comfortable with him. He has been donating here for over five years so I have got to know him. I'm not worried about the outfitter. I'm more concerned with my own ability since I have never been there. But I have quite some time to prepare.
