Anyone using Plot watching cameras
pros and cons please

I could write a book on using them. I just love them. I set them up on my food plots to find out where and when the deer are entering the field. So many factors involved with taking pics and more times than not, you don't get the pic. How many times have you seen a deer in front of your camera, but when you check it, there is no pic?

Cons:
It takes more camera's than you think to cover even a 1 acre food plot.
It creates lots of pics for you to go over
Many card viewers can't view the special file that each camera makes with the plot watcher pics
When you have people check them for you, they have a hard time understanding the files and have had them delete my pics before I could review

Pros:
You see more deer that enter your area
You can more easily pattern the buck you are after
Less likely to blow up the food plot with deer in it because you know when they will be there


To me, plot watchers are the closest thing to in the field scouting you can get.

I use Moultrie and Wildgame cameras for plot watching photo's. Both work well.

Some Bushnell Trophy Cams have the function built in too.

I ran that function on my bushnells a couple years ago. You set the camera to start taking pics every so many minutes for a time frame (usually around sun up and sun down, but you could do it all day if you wanted) and it also has trigger action while in this mode, so if an animal walks by it will still snap a pic.

Was really cool seeing the deer marching in from across the food plot and munching their way in...with the right set up and enough light, you can catch deer from hundreds of yards away. At night you are at the mercy of the flash.

I want to say all the current bushnell cams have this feature, but I am not 100% sure on that.

I finally used mine too after a couple years to over watch a piece of my property that was very open and hard to hunt. But I knew mule deer were making their way across the field to cross the road and hop into the neighbor's cotton field. My set-up was a little too far away, but I was able to see deer moving at about 300 yards across the field right at dusk.

Now I just got to figure out how to hunt that open ground. But cameras are an invaluable tool in my opinion.
