I got a bit overzealous while hollowing the handle and ended up much narrower around the edges than I really wanted. The steel is 3/16" thick O1. The narrowest spot is a bit over 1/8" wide. I'd prefer the handle to have a bit more "meat" around the edges but I think it will be ok. What do you think, strong enough? The scales are going to be carbon fiber or G10 bolted together with three 8-32 screws, so that should add a bit more strength.

One of the features of a Bob Lovess knife is that he often tapered the tangs. I don't think taking a little extra off will hurt anything.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I always take a bit of excess out of the tangs to reduce weight and and balance the knife better but on this particular knife I took more than I typically do. I can't grind worth a darn so I don't do tapered tangs. I would imagine tapered tangs are a stronger option to reducing weight than what I do because of the intact tang but I really can't say for sure. This one has more "meat" left on the outside edges of the tang and I'm much more confident in it's strength. The knife I posted above, I'm not so sure about. .

Might make it a little harder to balance, but shouldn't affect the strength of the handle with those type of scales bolted to it.

It will be fine; you have a lot more steel on the handle than most hidden tang knives.
