I just received my new scope on Wednesday. All I can say is WOW! I was looking at a 3X12 336 core or possibly a 2X16 640 core. I told the salesman that OP had a sale on this model with an additional 10% off sticker he asked what it would take to earn my business. Needless to say I called back the next day and ordered it.

I took it out the night it arrived and the new firmware dims slightly when there is a hot object in the FOV. However, details on mailboxes, cold vehicles, houses, bushes, trees, etc, is still completely visible. Some of the video's on youtube show excessive dimming, this is not the case, unless you have adjusted them that way. The quality of the videos on youtube and what you see in the view finder is like night and day. There is no comparison. Especially when zooming in, there is some degrading of image quality, but not like on the video's.

It's been raining every afternoon and evening since then. We have 70-80% chance of showers and 3-6" of rain forecast this weekend. I hope to get it mounted and sighted in before next weekend.

The 336 cores have 600yd detection range, and 400yd recognition, while the 640 cores have 900yd detection range and 750yd recognition IIRC.

This was a over budget, but I considered it an investment in my last few years of hunting. At 60 I've only got so many years left, a few months each fall. With this I can hunt hogs and coyotes year round, possibly more hunting than I've done in the past 40 years.

That is a nice thermal but a 75mm lens is a little too much for most hunting in Florida unless you are in a grazed cattle pasture or bush hog down everything, normally a 35-40mm lens is plenty in heavily forested/bushy areas like most of Florida.

I spend my money on dogs, hunting, racing, women, and whiskey - the rest I waste.

Yes, Skypup. I have a friend with 5,000 acres of maintained grazed ranch land near Sebring. Also the In-laws have 700 acres in Alabama, where 500+ yd shots would be possible, not that I plan on shooting that far. I can see from your signature that you really have wasted some money too.

One of my good friends that I visit to hunt is in Avon Park on the edge of the Kissimmee River right across from the bombing range and has a 20,000 acre cattle ranch with some great hog and coyote hunting.

Most of the time on my property I can only see 75 feet or so if I have not bush hogged it myself.

That's great. The phosphate mines where I used to work we weren't allowed within 1000yds of the nests. I've seen as many as 11 in the air at the same time one morning up at the Saddle Creek Mine, one spring. Several were adults, but mostly juveniles. I remember some were fighting over a fish they had caught it got dropped and caught several times, but never made it back to the water.

The Field Supervisor and I caught a wounded adult male years later when I was working at the Hookers Prairie Mine. He could only fly about 10' off the ground and go about 30 or 40 ft. After 3 or 4 attempts we finally threw a shirt over him and called the Florida Fish & Game Commission. They told us to call a rescue/rehab facility and they came out and picked him up. Trust me welders gloves didn't slow down those talons one bit. He never once tried to bite either one of us. They don't consider their beak a weapon they told us. About a year later they brought him and another back out and released them. A very impressive creature up close.
