That's Fair Oaks, right across IH10 from me. They interfere with the country club set playing through.

Wonder why they tag them?
Maybe to thwart poaching?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yep. Fair Oaks Ranch. The city commissioned a big study a few years back by A&M Kingsville to determine if deer have a home territory and how far they will travel. Netted and tagged hundreds of deer, many from the big park that is basically out my front door. Many deer here were also fitted with radio collars, and a young lady in an A&M truck would be driving around with one of those directional antennas trying to locate them. Study was a big waste of money. Just had to ask the residents. Those deer have been pretty much hand fed by the same people for years. My wife has a few pet deer that we can hand feed, and they will follow me into the garage to get food. All our fruit/vegetable scraps go out into a big dog bowl in our back acre and it gets eaten within an hour. Most houses in this area have larger 2 acre lots, and the area has horse trails and lots of bedding area. We also have a big population of axis, some are huge. What is weird is seeing a bunch of deer with no tags now since the young were not tagged.

CWD tracking? Might have to take'em down for sampling. or just taste testing.

If you are interested in the details, google "Fair Oaks Ranch Deer Study" and you should find an online summary report of Kara Campbell's Master's thesis with the results of this study. It found about what I would have told them if they had bothered to ask, and I would not have charged $90,000. Those deer are so well fed that they have no reason to wander far.

This is off on a tangent, but we got tons of big oaks too, not just saplings. The city and many streets/sub-units are named after Ralph Fair, a big money oil man who turned cattle man back in the prohibition days. Texas Cattleman's Association would have nothing to do with him cuz he was from dirty oil money. So he he gave em all the finger and went to Scotland and imported some high dollar stock, and did pretty well for himself, and never joined the Association. Had a big ranch and ranch house with a 'Speak-Easy'. Bogart and many other Hollywood types used to visit. The House is now the country club main building, and the ranch property has been steadily subdivided and the city incorporated since about 1980 I think. Neat place to live...
