So getting ready for work and I heard my dog fighting in the yard yesterday morning. Went out to find this copperhead in the flowerbed. Went ahead and finished the snake off. Then treated my dog, good news is dog seems to be doing fine today so I guess no real harm done.

Thanks guys I'm sure like many of you my dog is more than a dog. She's my hunting buddy, drinking pal and all around best friend. So things were tense when I first saw her bite the snake. But I knew how to treat her bite and only stressed a little while at work.

Glad your pooch is OK, most large dogs get over a bite fairly quickly.

Nice markings on that snake. Looked like a 'broadband' at first, but I'm pretty sure its a 'southern'.

My Chocolate Lab absolutely could NOT leave them alone. He was bitten on three separate occasions, found the dead snake each time.

Thank Goodness 'most' copperhead bites don't result in complications beyond swelling and mild tissue damage.

Good Girl...to kill that snake!

I see more snake bites than most get a lot of calls to catch and relocate them after animals being bit. I feel that most snakes have a purpose so I try not to kill all of them. I honestly enjoy snakes and think there is something very cool about them. I agree that the copper head is a very beautiful snake and tends to be the snake that most pets and people are bit by. Most of the time it's from messing with them they tend to be a more relaxed docile snake than others. I See it all as just part of having to live in the same areas as snakes. But if much rather deal with snakes in my yard than to live in the city.

That's a beautiful snake. I really like how it looks void of life.

so, how did you treat her, I have a jack Russell that will not leave snakes alone, so far no venomous

It has been my exerience Jack Russel dogs retain the snake avoidance training very well.

I squeezed the bite till the blood turned from black back to red. Then cleaned the wound and gave benadryl and antibiotics and some dog pain pills to help her relax. Just kept it clean and three days of antibiotics
