I'm looking for recommendations on the best CR123A batteries for my MKII Hunter.

Also, has anybody used the battery extender and how much additional viewing time did you get with the thermal?

Thanks!

The best primary CR123 Lithium Ion batteries for any application are the SureFire, they are made by Panasonic in the USA and have 1,550mAh. These are more powerful than any other on the market and also cost more.

The battery extender adds a additional batteries to your scope and basically increases the time before battery replacement, it does not matter if you are using 30Hz or 60Hz, the battery extender will increase whatever time you have at either frame rate. Dual battery extender is 4.5 hrs at 30Hz and triple extender is almost 7 hours.

Thanks, Skypup. I bought two packs of the Surefire's....found them for $20 for a 12 pack.

I'll look into the battery extender.

They are good, but not more powerful than any other according to folks over on candlepower.

And fortunately, they are not the most expensive either.

Which ones do you recommend then?

The Panasonic and the SureFire are basically the same battery made by Panasonic in USA, just labeled differently.

TWS do not draw as much amperage as the high power LED flashlights do, nominally less than 1 amp/hr unless they hooked up to a DVR and recording video.

IF your unit uses two 123A batts (or an extender will allow for it) then...I'd pick a good rechargeable 18650 battery and not use two single 123's.

Get a decent 'quick charger' and stop wasting money on 123's. I've been using 18650's for years in some of my equipment and they are still going strong (recharge/discharge). No telling how many recharge cycles.

Flint.

I don't think it is recommended to use rechargeable batteries in the IR Hunter Mark II.

I don't use rechargeables in my MKII-35mm either, but have never used a battery in my Flir RS64-35mm since I got it three years ago and used it 5,000+ times!

Surefires are pretty good. Everreadys worked okay. I am using Streamlights in my gear right now.

Tenergy, Rayovac, and Titanium are brands I would avoid buying.
