I had plenty of pictures of him last year but only got to see him once. I'm glad he's back. Any idea how old he might be?

The month is off on the time stamp. These were taken the week of 13 July.

Still hard to age this time of year. I wouldn't put him more than 4. He is still pretty long legged.

If your goal for your buck herd is larger antlers, he needs to go.

I'd say 3 or 4. He appears to have a larger body than all the other deer.

He's a funny dude. I posted some pics of him last year but I can't find them. He's just a wide 6 and has no hopes for anything more, I guess.

I saw him once last year but he was standing on the ranch where I know a house sits behind him. I didn't want to risk the shot. This year he's another wide 6. I like him but you're right - he needs to be dropped this year.

Great deer to come out of the herd on youth weekend IMO.

Man. I thought he was older. He was big bodied cuss last year. I'll have to get better at aging. :-)

I don't think that deer is young, looks to be 4 or 5 at least from those pics. Not all deer fit the mold of what the rest of the deer in the age class look like.

If you find a picture of him last year, post them. My guess is that it would change some of the guesses. Aging deer in the summer time can be difficult (I typically don't try to).

I would lean more to the middle aged if I was going to venture a guess.

Hope he sticks around. Good luck up

Based on that pic I would say 4-5 instead of 3-4. Would be a great first buck for a kid or adult. up

Man you've got to get that buck out of your herd. You will have his genetics in your herd forever. He looks like he is at least 5 years old by now by comparing his last years hard horn pictures. Look at his body mass all throughout his shoulders. His neck is not that huge, but sometimes real old bucks don't carry a lot of neck muscle like they would at 4 or 5 years of age. He could even be older than I think he is. I have killed several bucks over 7 years old, and their bodies go through many changes just like an old dog does. Their antlers normally get smaller and gangly. Ill try to find a pic of a 6 point framed buck I killed a few years back. He was 5 when I finally ran him down. He was just a 6 point up until I killed him. He grew some non typical points his last year.

A friend of mine shot this deer when he as 3 in the neck and he flipped over backwards. When he walked up to where the 3 year old 6 point was at, he was gone. The next year I didn't hunt him, because I thought he was dead and lost. I got back over in that area 2 years later and killed him chasing does. He wad 1/4 to 3/8 in thick skin and I had to shoot him 3 times. I walked up to after the 2nd shot , but he was just sitting up looking at me. Had to shoot him again, and it still took him ten more minutes to die. Toughest buck Ive ever seen. Taxidermist said that it was the thickest skinned buck that he had ever seen on a whitetail. Hey he looks cool, but you don't want 6 point genetics ruling your herd.

I saw a buck almost identical to this one last year in the same area. Guess who the daddy probably is. He looked like a 4 year old and had a 6 point frame with some non typical points. He gave me a quick glance at him and by the time I decided it was a cull buck, he disappeared in the bushes. Never saw him again. scratch

I appreciate all the input.

I sat for days and days waiting on him last year and only saw him the one time. Last summer he only showed up at night. This summer he's at the feeder in the mornings and evenings so hopefully that carries over into November.

I'm the only one in my family that hunts so he will be my cull this year…I hope. Would love to catch up to him.

And for the record…I was thinking 5+ years old. I have several 8s on the property I know are 3 and they are much smaller than this dude.

That's a cool deer, BTW.

That's cool, now he will be more of a quest than before and may be a buck that will become one of your favorites, because yall have history together. That's whats cool about hunting the old bucks, theyre older, wiser and more memorable. up

I agree. I sat all year waiting on him last year. I saw him the one time after he popped out of some cedars about 200 yards to my left. Another 400 yards directly behind him sits another ranch so I didn't want to risk a shot. I'm positive nothing would've happened but I'm a fan of not leaving anything to chance.

The real trouble, however, is him seeing me before I saw him. My blind is open so any movement is easily detectable. By the time I saw him he was staring directly at me. Of course, I got the butterflies and a little fever going. I put my scope on him and - like a little child - I start freaking out. I mean, it's just a 6-point - nothing special - but I had been looking for him all year long. So, I got a little excited.

But, he ducked behind some trees and I didn't see him the rest of the year. Not even on camera. I'm glad he's back and - I totally agree - we have a little history so for now he's my favorite. Hopefully, I can catch up to him this year. Size wise, he'll be the biggest and oldest deer I've killed.
