I may be going to the Baltimore area in December and I was interested in going on a duck or goose hunt while I'm there. I would be looking at a hunt in Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Virginia. Has anyone gone on a hunt in this area and have guides they would recommend? Which area would be the best to look for a guide? Thanks for any help.

I lived in DC for a few years and was able to make it out to the Eastern Shore a handful of times. I hunted on a friend's club property so I don't have any experience with the guides/lodges out that way, but what I do know is while there are not a whole lot of them out there, most are probably worth the time and money if you're in the area. Eastern Shore should be on everyone's waterfowl bucket list.

I would look online for guides based along the Chestertown-Centreville-Easton corridor in MD. The big question is if you'll be with a group or if you're traveling along. The Canada hunts there are usually meant for big groups since the daily limit is two. Some guides will let a single hunter tag along with a group while others won't.

Also be careful on your timing. The past few seasons the geese haven't really shown up in big numbers up that way until Jan-Feb. If you link up with a guide see what he thinks about your travel dates in December.

I second everything GoBears said. I goose hunt with my dad in that specific area when I visit for the holidays.

If you go late season, I highly, highly recommend a sea duck hunt too. The kind where you post up in a layout boat and a chase boat tends to you. Absolutely incredible shooting when the birds cooperate. We all got limits, including all 3 kinds of scoter and some drop dead gorgeous Old Squaw. We went with friends, so no guide info here. Photos below to give you an idea of what it's like.

Layout boat - the dark birds are scoter, and the white birds are Old Squaw

I don't have any info for guides in that area, but I will say that if you are going to be that close to the coast then you better go after some sea ducks.

A good friend and myself went to Maine a couple years back. It was one of the best trips I've ever done.

I'm sure you can figure something out between now and then.

I think I've narrowed it down to the eastern shore. I was leaning toward a goose hunt but those sea duck hunts look like fun.

Brian rogers at fowl intensity outfitters. I hunted with Brian for several years before he started guiding. He's a sea duck killing machine!!

And the two eiders in hand in the middle are a juvi drake and hen king eider.

He is out of magnolia deleware.
