This is my first post! But I have been hanging around reading a lot of this forum for the last year. I just wanted to get some opinions the best time of the season in Texas to try and plan out a goose hunt. I will be hunting around southeast Texas. Thanks for your help!

You don't want to go too early since the bird numbers won't be there. And you don't want to be late since the birds will be really spooky as the season drags on. I would guess sometime early in the second split if you have to make an early decision for booking purposes. What time geese are you trying to target and where are you planning on hunting?

I am not necessarily targeting specific geese more interested in just a quality hunt. I am planning on booking a hunt somewhere in the Eagle Lake area.

Early November so you can get the specks. Not many snows early but they are usually tough hunting regardless. Weather plays the biggest role in getting your snows. If you are wanting to target snows then I'd shoot for first part of December...and pray for the right weather.

Mid- December should not be bad, but there are so many factors - I have hunted with many guides and they scout each day, yet when you go to the field the next morning, the weather might not be right, clear bluebird and the birds won't come in. The birds decided to sit down in the field next door. One time the guide said, the birds picked up and went the other direction from their roost. One time - the wind direction changed, birds not using this route. Sometimes it comes together and you have a good shoot. Not as many birds come to Texas, but it is still fun to get out.
