My wife took our 11 year old Brittany to the vet for a check-up and was told that he has a heart murmur. I was wondering if others have come across this with their dogs and if so did it keep them from hunting them. I would hate not to hunt him, but I also don't want to put him at risk either.

Thanks

My dogs are all kenneled, so even tho they can't speak, I know for a fact that they had rather hunt than not.

In your case, my bet is, that he'll let you know when he has had enough. I've had three that just quit hunting. Two were quite old and beat up, and the third was a two year old (who had been a real phenom her first season) that quit and when I had her checked out, she had an extremely enlarged heart.

Thanks, that was kind of what I was thinking. Just thought I would put it out there to get other opinions.

We have a 10 yr old Britt that the vet says has "the beginning stages of a heart murmur" I plan to watch him close and put him up at the first sign of exhaustion. But we hunt from a Mule, so it makes it easier, always having water right there and a box he can go in.
