I was using the the bottom duplex of the scope to shoot at 200yds and it looks like I forgot that for one round and used the normal crosshair (the 5th round at the bottom), anyways Im not this good of a shooter there had to be some luck here. I have some sub moa 100yd groups ill post because I have heard about boat tailed bullets going to "sleep" at longer ranges as this group was much tighter than my 100yd groups and was wondering if this may be it. Also can someone do the magic ontarget calc to the photos for me?

Which scope are you using, is it fixed parallax?

Good shooting at 200 smile

I threw an older burris signature 6-24x and adjustable paralax on there for testing ammo, when hunting I have a cheap primary arms 4-14x FFP scope that will be mounted.

I've heard it talked about before, never really gave it much thought myself.

Good shooting though and the ontarget software is free to download

Good shooting with the Grendel, might have to try that ammo in one of mine sometime.

Ive hear some boat tailed bullets spiral a bit at closer ranges and stabilize and decrease the spiraling effect at a further distance. I have no idea if its true but have heard bench rest and long range people talk about it.

The bullet can loses stability, yes. But it is at the trans sonic range, where the bullet drops below the speed of sound. Instead of a spiral that the bullet would drill a hole, it begins to yaw causing it to draw a circle. For a 6.5 Creedmoor with a 140 gr A-max, a Density Altitude of 3000', and temps in the 90's, that is around 1400-1500 yards.

I'd have to run the numbers for your Grendel, but it will be give or take 1000 yards.

people on the grendel forum are saying that 123gr amax/sst will be super sonic to about 1400yds it think they are getting a muzzle velocity of 2600 or so with 24" in barrel.

Im shooting a 20" Black Whole Weaponry barrel with polygonal rifling which is supposed to give you some extra fps over conventional rifling. I dont have a chrono but im assuming im between 2500-2600fps for the 120 wolf.

I've heard the 1400y transonic number before with Grendel and never believed it.

I think you would need like a .9 BC to do that at 2600 fps.

lol I haven't tested it so I cant say anything. I think the BC on the 123 amax is like .51 or something off the top of my head

According to Hornady's factory load numbers, the Grendel 123gr AMAX leaves at 2590 and at 500 yds is down to 1804. So over the next 900 yds it only drops 700 fps after dropping nearly 800 fps in the first 500? Hmmmm, not sure about that.

I suspect what's happening is that the AMAX is pretty stable as it goes transonic, so
a few folks hit what they were aiming at and then somehow translate that into bullet speed being
supersonic. Or something like that.

I just plugged it in to strelok, looks like amax @2600fps goes subsonic around 1150-1180yd if I did this right lol. I think this gathered my current temp and altitude in SA but should go farther if your higher up. Im not sure if these virtual ballistics hold true in the real world so I guess take it with a grain of salt. It seem if you were around 5000ft elevation you might get an extra hundred yards or so

Great caliber, nicely done

I can believe that a few regulars on the Grendel Forum get to 1400 yards supersonic with their Grendels and loads, but when you shoot at 6000+ feet elevation and 20% humidity in Utah, Montana or Wyoming there is an advantage of much less air resistance. For those of us at much lower elevations and higher humidity no way.

For most of us Grendel shooters in Texas somewhere between 1100 and 1200 is much more realistic. Running the numbers for my boltaction 22 inch barrel with measured velocity of factory loads is subsonic at a little over 1100 yards.

what Im most impressed with is how well this ammo shoots for $14 a box, I bought the ammo to get some brass but im not sure if I can load any better than this. This was my first time shooting this rifle as I had just put it together. I think im going to order the 260 rem barrel for my ar10 build from BHW just in case its the barrel. Cant wait for my Saker to get here In a week or 2 and complete the build.

Checkout the 6.5 Creedmoor before going to the 260 in your AR10. The Creedmoor was designed for that gun but sees a lot of use in Boltactions also.

6.5c is still a possibility but I shoot quite a bit of 243 and figured converting brass would save me some money. Is there any tangible evidence that the 6.5c is better for the ar10 that would sway me to it? Its going to be my bigger hunting/long range suppressor rig if that makes a difference. Im looking @ 22" barrels but im open to ideas from 20-24.
