Driving out that way tomorrow to look at a lease. Anybody know what the terrain is like or the hunting? Says it's towards Aspermont more

Around Aspermont it is rolling with Mesquite and cedar. Some shin oak in some areas with sandy soil.

Very good whitetail if not overhunted. If your hunting more than one gun per 500 acres you are over hunting it.

Plenty of hogs, dove turkey and quail have made a come back.

Rotan has some very good hunting, lots of deer and has lots of bucks with a lot of pigs as well. Can shoot a good buck there every year depending on the place

It can be rolling to somewhat hilly and if you are in the redwash country it was rugged terrain. Like Pitchfork posted it is mainly mesquite, CRP and cedar. Some cropland. When I hunted just a bit north of that line the WT were more in the mesquite draws or CRP land, not so much in the cedar. Rut was early to mid November depending on exact location. We kept it at one hunter per 1000 acres. Water was king on our lease....locate troughs or tanks or springs for the deer.

Some mule deer around Aspermont as well. We looked at a place north of 380 on the Salt Fork. Very rugged and saw lots of deer. But the city water line did not reach the ranch and well water there was all gypsum.

Ok. Well the group I hunt with is dad, brother and his friend. They will hunt opening weekend, thanksgiving and Christmas. That's it's. So I'll be alone the whole time more than likely. As far as not seeing many deer I hunted in Graham for 20+ years and I never saw a lot of deer. But I still saw them. Went down around San Angelo last year and saw 6 or 7 at a time no problem. So I'm ok with not seeing many. I'm a Horn Hunter. I'll admit that.

You'll see more pigs than deer in Fisher County.

I hunted just a few miles northwest of Aspermont for the last three seasons. Love that country up there. Like the others said, lots of hogs. There are certainly some big deer out there. Won't be hunting that place anymore, definitely will miss it.
