On June 27th my wife and l were blessed with our first child. A son who will hopefully one day be my hunting partner...but that day is a long ways off.lts become apparent that lm on lock down at the house for awhile... For those of u that are father's do you think the wife will give me the green light to head out on opening weekend or will l be trading my days in the stand for diaper duty this year? Just wondering how long l should expect to wait for things to get back to normal with a monthly trip to the ranch in the offseason and weekly trips during deer season. Because l value my life and safety lm not asking my wife this question

Had number 2 about this same time last year, June 24th. Still made opening weekend but didn't stay my normal full week. Still made it out during the season too, but not as much as normal. Was ok though, still got a nice 8 pt, a spike and a doe. Good luck on getting out, but tread lightly, lol. Those first few months can be rough on everyone.

My boy was born October 10th last year. I gave up bow season. I told her by rifle opener she could stay with her mother or come to deer camp... honestly I don't recall what direction that ended up going. In the end it was slim pickins last year for me on the hunting end.

Now he comes to deer camp with us and mommy or Omie watches him.

I have baby boy due in November and my wife said the other day when chatting about the lease "babe I'm sorry, but we probably won't be able to hunt much with you this year". Sounds like I have the green light

My son was born Nov 1 in 2011. I missed opening day, but made a 1-day trip around Nov 16th. Then, I was able to make a couple 3-day trips in December.

Those first few weeks are "all hands on deck" but things get a little better after that. I would say you should be good to go by hunting season.

Upside is we already have plans to celebrate my Son's b-day at the ranch in future years.

There's plenty of time to get the kiddo on a good schedule. Get the hunting in this year before he's mobile and more of a handful to keep tabs on.

I can promise you one thing, life will never be the same now with kiddos, so get past that, the past is a memory now. As time goes on, you and the wife will get a working knowledge of how things will/can play out, you will get some good hunts in and maybe some short ones, but you best find the right trade offs with momma.

You are now living the "new normal" for your family.

I just have one little one, I see folks at church, the store, etc with 2 or 3 and a bun in the oven... just the thought of that freaks me out!

I'll have 3 kiddos come November and have enjoyed every second with the 1st two. I've learned to be very patient and "making" time for my kids isn't something I HAVE to do. It's something I WANT to do. Three days a week football practice, work (home, lease, and job), and kids school/daycare is a never ending job. Family trips to the ranch and vacations are just what one needs to beat the daily grind.

I felt the same with only one. I was concern that I could only provide and care for 1. That my friend was a mistake. We put all our eggs into one basket and it hasn't turned out to be a good decision. In hindsight which you know is 20/20, I could have provided for 5 or 6 kids, so my reasoning was way off. Have at least 2 if not 3 because concerns you may have are probably baseless.

My concerns are patience... not sure I have enough. Planning on more, just not till the first is walking talking and to quote Big Daddy "wipes his own arse"!

Make sure you take the kiddo and give her time to go do her girly things with the girls over the next few months and when the time comes for you to do your guy stuff you shouldn't have any problem.

I figured out long ago that if I encourage my wife to get out of the house and go spend time with her friends while I stay at home and do the stuff that I should be doing anyway(yard, house repairs, time with kids, etc.), then my wife rarely ever complains when I tell her I'm wanting to go to the woods for a while. The term "pay it forward" goes a long ways when dealing with a wife and kiddos.

Im not being a smart arse, I eagerly want to know how you stay at home with the child and get something done while the wife is out? I cant mow, trim trees, change oil, wash car etc. by myself with the kiddo.
