I hunt in South Texas and was wondering which would be best. The brush where I hunt is about 8 ft tall in most parts with a few taller trees. I've always used a pop up blind for bow hunting but the deer always seem to be scared of it. I never put it out early because I never know where I'm going to hunt until the cameras tell me. I sometimes put it out that morning.

I'm thinking about building a tripod and putting burlap around it to conceal me and setting it up near or in a tree.

Would that be better and less spooky than having a pop up?

Both are going to have the same result as far as the deer spooking from it. Need to get it out early as you can for them to get used to it IMO. Brushing them in really helps a lot also. Just remember you are in the deer's house. They know every inch of it and something different will be noticed. The older the deer the more spooky or edgy they will be.

You can see a lot more in a tripod, but the advantage in being in a pop up and undetected movement is a bonus I personally cannot give up. Get it out early and they should be plenty used to it. Pop ups keep your scent contained if you can keep from sweating too much IMO

I personally prefer tripods when possible. Pop-ups are like little ovens, especially in bow season. I enjoy the greater visibility, and don't mind that it requires me to be more disciplined about movement. Getting busted on the draw is a challenge, however.

In both situations you have to play the wind. Pop-ups hold scent a little better, but with the wrong wind they will still bust you.

I prefer a tripod, rattlers seemed to like my pop up and are very hot. I put mine on top of a Mesquite tree with a little trimming and tied cedar branches to break up my out line.
