If you were going to build a new box blind, what size would you build, and are there any key features you would add? I'm thinking 4'x6', 5'x6', 4'x8', 5'x8'? Blind will be on the ground or on a short base, and weight is not a big factor for where I have in mind for the blind. Two-man hunts are a distinct possibility. Thoughts?

Mine is 4x4 and just right for me and a little buddy heater. For two men 4x8 minimum. Insulate it or be cold.

To me 4x5 is the perfect blind, not to big and not to small but ok for two people.

As a guy with two kiddos my next one will be 5x8. I need one big enough where the whole family of 4 can hunt together.
At minimum I would go 4x6 for two people.

At minimum I would go 4x6 for two people. You need to get one of these for the entire family. Ultra Deer Tower

4X6 with a built in bench seat. Used to use old office chairs, but they took up too much space.

At 5x8 it would be long enough to nap in, if I felt so inclined. I better double-check the width on my 5x10 trailer, make sure it will fit inside the rails.

That's what mine is, 4' 10" x 8', so I could fit it between the rails of the trailer for the trip out there and more importantly the trip to it's set up spot. That little bit of extra leg room makes all the difference. I went from a 4x6 to the new one, and it's super nice. I'm on a new lease this year, thinking about a 5x5 for myself. Insulated well, it shouldn't be an issue to keep warm.

6x6 I bow hunt and hunt with buddies all depends on what you want to do. I have a office chair and a reg no arm chair in all 3 of mine. If you want two office chairs you need a x7 or 8 if you have shelves. ideal size for me would be 5x7 but to many cuts so I went 6x6 to fit studs better.

I built an 8'x8', had little waste and you wouldn't believe the extra room, would be nothing for overnighting for 2-3 people., Build in a couple drop down twin beds that close up against the wall and you have a hell of a "tree house".
I think one of the biggest things to consider, is how much time will you spend in the blind, if you hunt long and hard, more room is always welcome.
If at first you dont succeed, then skydiving is not for you..

Go 6x8 or 6x9 if you can. That extra foot of width makes a huge difference for 3 people and 3 comfortable chairs. Can have a shelf on 3 sides also to store gear, etc also.

Try this, take a sheet of plywood and lay on the ground, set two chairs on it, two people in chairs twist around like you hunting. Should give you a idea of how big to build. If build to small hard to add onto. If a little big more room.

x2 on the 6x9. I saw one in Brady a while back and it's roomy. My daughter who in on the lease with me immediate said she could put a cot in the blind and still have plenty of room.

Nothing wrong with having a blind you can stretch out and nap in, especially if you like to make an all dayer out of it. Also nice to get in extra early and catcha few winks while the woods calm back down. I get made fun of for doing it all the time, but it helps me stay out longer. Although I will say I'd prefer the smallest possible to do this in, cuz it's annoying as hell to have to move around a big blind to see out the windows, not to mention noisy.

One feature that hasn't been mentioned is height. If I can stand up instead of being hunched over or crawling getting in and out makes a huge difference to me.

I have a 4x6 right now and feel it's too small for just me. I like to kick my feet up and relax, and that hard being over 6 foot tall. Next blind will be a 5x8 since the wife likes coming with me.

I have 2 - 4x8's and they can hold me and my two kids without any issues. Usually one of them is laying down on the floor sleeping and that can get a little cramped when both want to lay down. If you are looking for something you can lay down in, a 5x8 or 6x8 would be better. Since you are building your own, once you go past 4x8, you have to get another piece of plywood for the floor and the sides. So at that point, it doesn't really matter whether you go 5x8, 6x8 or 8x8.
Thanks, Rich

I built four this summer that are 6x8 with 7'3" ceilings and full size 3'0 metal exterior doors. Everyone loves them.
